Javan Gray is the Assistant Director of Bands at North Paulding High School. Ms. Gray is originally from the Northern Virginia area where she found her love for band. She began playing saxophone in sixth grade and later joined marching band during high school. During high school, she participated in the Mid-Atlantic Honor Band at the Shenandoah Conservatory and was also a member during the sixth season of Virginia Winds Academy, formerly known as Northern Virginia Youth Winds.

Following high school, she attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she studied music education. During her years at UT, she was an active member of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band as both a marcher and, eventually, as an undergraduate assistant to the directors. Additionally, she was a member of the UT concert ensembles, UT Saxophone Ensemble, World Percussion Ensemble, and various saxophone quartets. She completed her student teaching internship with the Halls High School and Halls Middle School band programs, as well as the Fountain City Elementary general music program in Knoxville, TN.

Although music and band are her passion, when she isn’t playing or teaching, Ms. Gray enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and two cats, Midnight and Mamas.
